Science

Pin Oak Middle School Science embraces a spiral system in which students explore life, earth, and physical sciences with increasing complexity each year. Grade level and PreAP/GT science courses are available in 8th grade.

Pin Oak will also be offering Integrated Physics and Chemistry to Pre-AP qualified 8th grade students

The Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC) course is a high school course recommended for Grades 9 or 10. This course integrates the disciplines of physics and chemistry in the following topics: motion, waves, energy transformations, properties of matter, changes in matter, and solution chemistry. The course brings together the interconnections of these sciences in problem based learning situations.

All core science courses needed for graduation at the high school level are one full credit—combinations such as ½ credit Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC) and ½ credit of Chemistry may NOT be used. Although students may receive credit for completing a semester of a science course, this credit may be used as elective credit only and not as science credit toward graduation under any of the graduation plans.
